Myotherapy at Body D-Tox
Myotherapy focuses on assessing and treating muscular pain, tension, restricted movement, and dysfunction caused by stress, posture, injury, overuse, or chronic conditions. Unlike standard massage, Myotherapy begins with a thorough clinical assessment — understanding not just where the pain is, but why it’s there — before building a targeted treatment plan tailored to your specific body and needs.
At Body D-Tox, our therapists take a genuinely personalised approach, working with each client individually to identify contributing factors and support long-term wellness and recovery. Every session aims to not only relieve symptoms, but to help your body move, feel, and function better over time.
Our Treatments
Myotherapy and Dry Needling are highly complementary — often used together in a single session to achieve faster, more lasting results.
🦴
A clinical form of physical therapy focused on the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of muscular pain and dysfunction. Myotherapy combines hands-on treatment techniques with corrective strategies — addressing muscle imbalances, movement patterns, and the underlying causes of pain. An initial session includes a medical history review, postural and movement assessment, and a tailored treatment plan.
🪡
A targeted technique used within Myotherapy sessions to release tight muscles, reduce trigger points, improve circulation, and decrease pain and inflammation. Fine sterile needles are inserted into specific trigger points, causing a brief twitch response that deactivates the muscle knot and restores normal function. Most clients experience minimal discomfort and noticeable relief immediately after the technique is applied.
Treatment Techniques
Each modality serves a distinct purpose — your therapist will recommend the right approach, or combination, based on your needs on the day.
💪
Firm, targeted pressure into the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to release chronic tension, adhesions, and restriction.
🪡
Fine sterile needles inserted into trigger points to deactivate muscle knots, reduce pain, and restore normal muscular function.
🔵
Soothes the nervous system — leaving you lighter, more relaxed, and with a deeper sense of mental calm.
🎯
Sustained manual pressure on hyperirritable muscle knots that refer pain elsewhere — releasing tension at the source for lasting relief.
🌊
Gentle, sustained pressure applied to restricted fascial tissue to eliminate pain, restore movement, and improve overall body mechanics.
🩹
Applied post-treatment to support muscles and joints, improve posture, reduce strain, decrease swelling, and assist recovery between sessions.
🧍
Structured analysis of skeletal alignment, posture, and movement patterns to identify contributing factors to pain and dysfunction.
🔄
Careful, controlled movement of joints through their range of motion to improve mobility, reduce stiffness, and support joint health.
🏋️
Tailored rehabilitation exercises and stretching prescribed to maintain treatment gains and correct underlying movement dysfunction between sessions.

Your Session
Sessions run 60–90 minutes. Your first session will always begin with a thorough consultation and assessment before any treatment begins — this is what makes Myotherapy genuinely different from a standard massage.
01
Your therapist takes a comprehensive history including your current concerns, past injuries, lifestyle, and treatment goals to inform the approach.
02
Skeletal structure, posture, range of movement, joint mobility, muscle strength, neurological testing, and orthopaedic tests — all assessed before treatment begins.
03
Your session draws on the techniques best suited to your presentation — which may include deep tissue work, dry needling, cupping, taping, myofascial release, or joint mobilisation.
04
Your therapist provides tailored stretching, corrective exercises, and lifestyle recommendations to maintain and build on your treatment outcomes between sessions.
Understanding Dry Needling
Dry needling uses fine, sterile needles — the same as acupuncture needles — inserted directly into tight muscles or trigger points. Unlike acupuncture, which is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, dry needling is a Western clinical technique grounded in anatomy, physiology, and evidence-based practice.
◆
The needle causes a brief localised twitch response in the muscle, which deactivates the trigger point, releases tension, and restores normal muscle function. Blood flow and oxygen delivery to the area is also improved.
◆
Most people experience minimal discomfort. You may feel a brief twitch or a mild aching sensation as the needle engages the trigger point — followed almost immediately by a sense of release and relief. Most clients are surprised by how comfortable it is.
◆
Mild local soreness for 12–24 hours post-treatment is normal and expected. This is followed by improved range of motion, reduced pain, and better muscle function. Staying hydrated and doing gentle movement helps recovery.
◆
Yes. All needles are single-use and sterile. Dry needling is performed only by qualified Myotherapists who are specifically trained in this technique. It is safe, evidence-based, and widely used in clinical practice.
Is It Right for You?
01
Myotherapy is widely used for sports recovery, injury prevention, muscle maintenance, mobility improvement, and rehabilitation support.
02
People with chronic pain Addresses the underlying muscular patterns and restrictions driving long-standing pain — not just masking symptoms temporarily.
03
Prolonged sitting, screen time, and repetitive movement create predictable patterns of tension that Myotherapy is specifically designed to address.
04
Works alongside physiotherapists, osteopaths, and chiropractors to support safe, effective rehabilitation and faster return to function.
05
Many headaches originate from tight muscles in the neck, shoulders, and upper back — trigger point release and dry needling can provide significant relief.
06
Myotherapy improves muscular strength, flexibility, and movement quality — making it valuable for long-term physical health, not just pain management.

Have Questions?
Myotherapy is a form of physical therapy focused on the clinical assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of muscular pain, dysfunction, tightness, and restricted movement. It combines hands-on treatment techniques with corrective strategies to address not just symptoms, but the underlying muscular patterns and contributing factors driving them. It's a broader, more clinical approach than standard remedial massage.
Yes. All IV infusions at Body D-Tox are administered by qualified medical professionals — nurses and IV-trained practitioners — under the oversight of a doctor, through our partnership with Pulse IV. A health screening and consultation are required before your first treatment to ensure suitability. This is a non-negotiable part of the process and is there for your safety and wellbeing.
Dry needling uses the same fine, sterile needles as acupuncture — but the technique and intent are completely different. Acupuncture is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine and follows meridian pathways. Dry needling is a Western clinical technique grounded in anatomy, physiology, and neuroscience — needles are inserted directly into trigger points (tight muscle knots) to release tension, reduce pain, and improve blood flow. Both are effective; they simply work from different frameworks.
Most people experience minimal discomfort. When the needle engages a trigger point, you may feel a brief twitch or a mild aching sensation — this is the muscle responding and releasing. Most clients are surprised by how comfortable the experience is, and the relief felt immediately after the technique is applied is often significant. Mild local soreness for 12–24 hours post-treatment is normal and part of the healing response.
Sports and kinesiology taping is applied post-treatment to help support muscles and joints, reduce strain on recovering tissue, improve posture, decrease swelling, and assist recovery between sessions. It's a useful adjunct that helps maintain the benefits of your treatment in the days following your appointment.
This depends on your condition, its duration, your lifestyle, and your goals. Some clients notice significant improvement after a single session. Others with long-standing or complex conditions benefit from an ongoing treatment plan. Your therapist will give you an honest assessment of what to expect after your initial consultation and will adjust the approach based on how your body responds.
Absolutely. Myotherapy is widely used in sports settings for recovery, injury prevention, performance maintenance, mobility improvement, and rehabilitation. Whether you're a weekend runner or a competitive athlete, regular Myotherapy can meaningfully support how your body performs and recovers.
Yes — and it's highly recommended. Myotherapy combines exceptionally well with Infrared Sauna or Vibro Sauna (to warm and prepare tissue before treatment), Red Light Therapy (to support cellular recovery after treatment), and Lymphatic Drainage (to reduce post-treatment inflammation). Many clients use Myotherapy as the cornerstone of a broader weekly wellness routine at Body D-Tox.
